Lock Bumping History
In the 1970's, locksmiths in Denmark shared a technique for knocking or bumping on a lock cylinder while applying slight pressure to the back of the lock (see video). The bumping causes the pins to jump inside the lock cylinder, stopping at the shear line, and the cylidner is free to spin/open. With the introduction of the internet, this technique was shared with the general public, and examples of how to do it can now be easily found. Unfortunately, copies of the specially cut keys required to "bump" a lock can also be easily found.

This is the most affordable way to protect your home from lock bumping. If taking your locks to a shop is not possible, the locksmith can come to your home for an additional service charge.
