2022 Video Doorbell Comparison – Which is the Best Doorbell Camera?

If you subscribe to the ACME Locksmith YouTube channel, you know that I love the Video Door bell I use on my home by Skybell and you’ve probably watched me unbox and install another favorite of mine, the EZVIZ.

Here, I review 7 video doorbells available in 2022.

The best video door bells don’t require monthly fees to store captured videos, don’t have distorted (fisheye) video, and have at least 1080p video resolution. The best doorbell cameras are: the Honeywell Skybell Video Doorbell, the EZVIZ Wifi Video Doorbell, and the Zumimall Video Doorbell.

We’ve included some other doorbell cameras that stand out for different reasons for completeness due to the popularity of the products. For example, if you don’t mind paying monthly fees to view your video, the the new Ring Pro Video Doorbell becomes the number one choice – but I don’t like monthly fees.

We’ve chosen these seven after considering various different products available in the market, and here we will look at many of the pros and cons of each product along with our recommendation.

Without further ado, let us begin with a video doorbell comparison chart for those we’ve reviewed.

My Review on the Honeywell Skybell Video Doorbell.

This video doorbell is on my home for a reason, it was my favorite doorbell camera in 2021 and it remains the best doorbell camera of 2022. Watch my YouTube Video Doorbell Review of the Skybell, and it will become clear why. The picture quality is awesome, and it show absolutely no distortion in the video. The 7-days of free storage without requiring a microSD card is the best of all the doorbells reviewed. I find the zoom (5X zoom capability) to be very useful when checking the video.

The only drawback is that because Honeywell doorbells aren’t readily available online, it is getting harder to find this great product. If it were easily found, it would be our #1 recommendation!

Installation is a breeze as it is simply powered by the existing doorbell wires, and it requires no modification to the existing chime unit. I was up and running in 10 minutes. But if you get stuck, any local residential locksmith service can assist.

The Skybell HD offers a lot of flexibility especially due to its integration with various smart home applications (especially security and home automation devices).

The Skybell HD offers a really compact, modern, and yet durable design and is one of our recommended best house locks.

My Review of the EZVIZ Video Doorbell

You can see my complete product review and installation on my YouTube Channel, here.

Installing the EZVIZ DB1 doorbell is very easy provided your house already has an existing doorbell chime that is compatible with EZVIZ (you can check EZVIZ’s list for compatible chimes here.)

With that being said, the EZVIZ DB1 is an attractively priced doorbell camera with pretty decent camera quality and overall features. A valuable feature from this smart doorbell is the inclusion of a microSD card slot of up to 128GB. This allows you to store the videos locally and not have to rely on an expensive and unnecessary cloud storage subscription. A little money upfront for the microSD card saves a lot later.

The EZVIZ doorbell also comes with free, 3-hours of cloud video storage and playback. If you prefer cloud storage to using a microSD card, EZVIZ offers a 7-day playback plan for about $5/month and 30-day playback plan for around $10 / month. , which are pretty expensive. However, it does offer a 3-hour playback for free.

The DB1 has limited motion detection customization and face recognition options. But overall, a pretty decent affordable option especially if you are looking for a doorbell video camera without a subscription.

3.ZUMIMALL C1 WiFi Video Doorbell

Quick Launch Prerecorded Messages

Key Features of Zumimall (available for purchase on Amazon)
  • 5.3 x 2.4 x 1.6 inches

  • 100% Wireless with a rechargeable 6600mAh battery
  • Supports 2.4 GHz WiFI (does not support 5 GHz WiFi)

  • 1080P FHD camera with night vision, 166-degree wide-angle view
  • 2-Way audio, can use 30-seconds prerecorded voice message for quick replies
  • Device video can be shared

Pros:

  • The only doorbell video camera to include 32GB microSD storage
  • Wireless chime included, don’t need to modify existing chimes
  • Rechargeable batteries so no current door bell is required! Batteries last up to 2-3 months per charge
  • Great video quality with real night vision
  • The low-cost leader

Cons:

  • App has been reported to be crash from time to time
  • The sensor has only two sensitivities: low and high

My Review on the Zumimall Video Doorbell

If you don’t have a current doorbell, this is your only option for a doorbell video camera. Because it is battery operated it does not need the wires from an existing doorbell to get power, and it ships with a wireless chime. This, also means that the ZUMAMALL C1 is very easy to setup

Extremely affordable with a good set of standard features: 1080p FHD camera, 32GB video memory, and so on.

A minor downside is that it is a rather large video doorbell and no where near as streamlined as the EZVIZ or SkyBell. It also has a rather clunky smartphone app with several comments stating that it has crashed on users from time to time (hopefully will get fixed in a future update patch), but it’s still one of the best affordable smart doorbells in 2020 due to its price and unique set of features.

4.Eufy Security WiFi Doorbell Video Camera – 2K

Best Resolution of our Video Doorbell Comparison

Eufy’s Key Features (available for purchase on Amazon)
  • 4.8” x 1.69” x 0.94” product dimension

  • Free electronic chime included, with 8 holiday-themed ringtones and adjustable volume level
  • Free Military-Grade AES 256-Bit cloud storage service

Pros:

  • Crystal clear, very high-quality 2K UHD video. Best resolution of our doorbell camera comparison.
  • Easy installation with free electronic chime included in the package, plug & play
  • Compact design
  • MicroSD support, no monthly subscription for video cloud storage
  • Easy to use and intuitive app
  • Alexa and Google support

Cons:

  • Faceplate can be easy to scratch
  • App has been reported to crash during live streaming
  • Design is a little outdated

My Review on the Eufy Security Video Doorbell

One of the key highlights of the Eufy 2K WiFi Video Doorbell is its 2K (2560 x 1920) UHD video resolution quality, which is incredible feat considering its relatively affordable price.

Also, the Eufy app for iOS and Android is really intuitive and easy to use, although it sometimes crashed during live streaming.

It includes a wireless electronic chime that will replace your current chime. The Eufy video doorbell will use your current doorbell’s wiring for power and the current door chime will no longer work.

It includes a 16GB MicroSD in the package for video storage out of the box.

The minor downsides are that the faceplate is fairly vulnerable to scratches and I the design feels outdated. Yet, the Eufy 2K WiFi Video Doorbell is still a pretty decent option as one of the best video doorbells available today especially if the quality of the image is your main concern.

5. Amcrest Video Doorbell Camera Pro

Amcrest Video Doorbell Overview

Key Features of Amcrest Video Doorbell (available for purchase on Amazon)

  • 128GB Micro SD support (not included), Amcrest Smart Home Cloud available as an option
  • 2.4GHz WiFi

Pros:

  • A video doorbell with no monthly subscription required
  • Easy to install and setup

Cons:

  • Some features are only available in the Amcrest Smart Home app
  • 140 degree field of view is among the lowest

My Review on the Amcrest Video Doorbell

The Amcrest Video Doorbell Camera Pro can integrate well with various Amrest devices (especially the security cameras) and Amazon Alexa devices.

It doesn’t rely on monthly cloud video subscription fees (supports up to 128 GB of MicroSD) and if you are a Amcrest user already, setup with other devices can be very easy.

It has a nice feature that allows you the ability to mask the motion sensing area (instead of just marking radius or distance). This can help reduce numerous unwanted alarm notifications when motion sensing is turned on.

One of the more affordable video doorbells we looked at.

6.Ring Video Doorbell Pro

New Ring Video Doorbell Pro

Pros:

  • New! 1080p FHD video
  • New! Sleek and compact design
  • New! Multiple faceplate colors
  • Customizable motion detection zones

Cons:

  • Requires cloud storage subscription fees
  • The most expensive video doorbell we reviewed

My Thought on the new Ring Pro Video Doorbell

I am not going to sugar coat it, the older traditional Ring Video Doorbell, below, has always been my least favorite. It’s large, clunky, and I hate that you have to pay for video storage!

But this new Ring Pro Video Doorbell has fixed most of the shortcomings of the older product. For instance, it offers 1080p HD instead of the 720p. The advanced motion detection technology allows you to set zones with more precision. Also, it is more compact than the older clunky Ring. And it now includes a selection of colored face plates to match your decor.

So, all in all, the Ring Pro is obviously a better product than the standard Ring. And Ring is a well formed, managed, and American company.

However, it still relies on the the Ring monthly video plan and has no local microSD storage. If they fixed this issue, this could become my new favorite video door bell despite it’s expensive price.

But for me, it’s a no-go, I am only interest in video door bells with no monthly monitoring fees. If that doesn’t bother you, like it does me, then it could be your #1 choice.

7.Ring Video Doorbell

Key Features of Ring (available for purchase on Amazon)

The Legacy Style Ring Product
  • 720p video resolution, 160-degree field of view, 90-degree vertical field of view
  • Only supports 2.4 GHz WiFi
  • Great app with instant alerts and notifications sent straight to your smartphone, tablet, and PC
  • Excellent infrared night vision, HD vision at night
  • Can work without any existing chimes and doorbell wires
  • Video sharing within a neighborhood (for Ring users)
  • Lifetime Theft Protection, if your Ring gets stolen, will be replaced for free
  • Great integration with various smart home applications including Amazon’s Alexa

Pros:

  • Battery-powered option
  • Infrared night vision
  • Smart motion detection and intelligent alerts

Cons:

  • 720p video resolution only
  • Requires cloud storage subscription fees
  • Huge and ugly

My Review on Ring Video Doorbell

If you’ve watched my YouTube channel, you know my thoughts on products that require subscriptions. I’m strongly against them!

Ring was among the first brands that pioneered smart security cameras and smart video doorbells, and the Ring (standard) Video Doorbell’s key highlight is that it has good customer support and a great app.

But it’s age is showing. The door bell is huge, and has bad video resolution at 720p (the least of those reviewed). It does feature good infrared night vision technology making it very reliable at night.

Combined with the required monthly subscription fee, and you should definitely take a pass on this video doorbell.

Conclusion

The 7 video doorbells we have compared above are our in order of my preference for my locksmith customers that trust me with their security. We hope you’ve gathered enough information from this buying guide, and can make a better purchase decision with what we’ve shared.
