Laser Cut Car Keys Cut and Programmed in Phoenix
ACME Locksmith cuts and programs laser cut car keys at all four Phoenix metro shops. We are a licensed, veteran-owned company, in business since 1997, with four valley shops and more than 170,000 jobs completed. A laser cut key, also called a sidewinder or high-security car key, has cuts milled down the center or sides instead of edge notches, and many carry a chip that must be programmed to the car. We make spares and replace lost keys quickly, and for less than a dealership. Need a key by mail? You can order car keys by VIN. We serve Phoenix, Mesa, Scottsdale, Gilbert, and the Valley.

What Is a Laser Cut Car Key?
A laser cut car key, also called a sidewinder or high-security car key, has a winding channel milled down the center or sides of the blade instead of the notches cut into the edge of an old-style key. A computer-controlled machine carves that groove to precise depths, which is why the key turns smoothly in both the door and the ignition, and why it cannot be copied on a standard hardware-store machine. Most laser cut keys also carry a transponder chip that has to be programmed to your specific vehicle before it will start the car. That precision and the chip are what make these keys harder to duplicate, better at deterring theft, and a bit more expensive than traditional edge-cut keys.
Why These Keys Cost More to Copy
To cut a laser key, we use a milling machine with a small bit that shaves metal from the blank, moving up, down, and side to side to carve cuts along the top, bottom, or center of the blade. That precision is what makes the key work smoothly in both the door and the ignition, and what makes it hard to duplicate.
Basic laser cuts start around $50. Smart keys and fobs can run over $200, still well under dealer pricing. We break down the numbers in our car key pricing guide.
