Car Key Programming for Phoenix Metro
Transponder keys, fobs, and remotes programmed, in shop or mobile, same day.
Locksmiths Who Program Car Keys and Fobs
Most vehicles built after 1990 use keys or remotes that must be programmed to the car. ACME Locksmith handles car key programming and key fob programming: transponder keys, remote-key combos, smart fobs, and standalone remotes for most American and Asian makes including Ford, GM, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, and Jeep. We program in shop, which is the most affordable option with no mobile fee, or we come to you. Veteran-owned, Arizona ROC licensed since 1997. Late-model German vehicles usually require dealer programming.
Keys and Remotes We Program
If it has a chip or a remote, it almost always needs programming.

Transponder keys
A chip in the key head must be programmed for the car to start. In most cases, the head of the chipped key is encased in plastic. You won’t see that there’s a chip in it.

Remote-key combos
A key with a built-in remote to lock, unlock, and sometimes open the trunk. There are actually TWO chips in these keys. One for the remote functionality and one for the key.

Smart fobs & remotes
Proximity fobs for push-start cars, plus standalone lock and unlock remotes.

In-Shop or Mobile, You Choose
If your car still drives, visiting one of our Phoenix-area shops is the most affordable option, there is no mobile fee. For in-shop service, arrive at least one hour before closing so we have time to set up and test.
Can’t drive the car? Our mobile locksmiths come to you anywhere in the metro. We will also program a fob you bought online, billed up front since we did not supply the part and cannot guarantee it fits. Need the part? See car keys, fobs and remotes.
What Customers Say About Our Programming
Car Key Programming FAQ
Can a locksmith test if my car remote is working?
Yes. Stop by any location and we test it free. If it is just the battery, we replace it on the spot. If there is no signal, we recommend next steps, no pushy upsells.
How We Program Car Keys and Fobs
We connect to your car diagnostic port with dealer-level tools, register the key chip to the vehicle immobilizer, cut the blade to your code, and test that the car starts and the remote locks, unlocks, and pops the trunk before you leave. Most jobs take 15 to 45 minutes.
Can You Program a Car Key Yourself?
Sometimes. Some standalone remotes and certain keys have onboard programming you can do with the steps on the product page. Most transponder keys pair to the car immobilizer and need our equipment. And if your key blade broke but the electronics still work, we move the chip and remote into a new shell, so there is nothing to reprogram.
How to Check if You Can Program Your Own Key
Visit Our Car Keys & Remotes Website.
Search for your year make and model.
Select the key that matches your key.
If you can program it, there will be a “Programming Instructions” tab that provides the details of how to program (see screenshot).
If you cannot program the key or remote that tab is not shown.

Vehicle Brands We Program
We program most American and Asian makes, including Ford, GM, Chevrolet, Toyota, Lexus, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, and Jeep. Late-model German vehicles such as Mercedes, BMW, VW, and Porsche usually require the dealer. For model years before 2005, give us a call and we will let you know.
