How to Factory Reset Schlage Smart Locks (Encode, Connect, Touch, BE365)

Last Updated on June 10, 2026

To reset a Schlage keypad lock, open the inside cover, disconnect the battery, then press and hold the Schlage button while you reconnect the battery until the keypad flashes and beeps. You do not need your old programming code, the lock resets to the default codes printed on the white sticker inside, and you enter one of those to finish. The exact sequence differs slightly by model (Encode, Connect, Touch, BE365), all covered below.

Schlage makes several electronic locks and the reset varies by model. They look alike, so identify yours first, then follow that section. The good news: every Schlage reset uses the default codes on the lock’s own sticker, so a missing programming code is not a problem.

The different Schlage electronic lock models: Encode, Connect, Touch, and BE365

Identify your Schlage and reset it without the code

Pop the battery cover or the back plate and find the white sticker with the part number and default user codes. The part number (BE489, BE468, BE469, FE695, BE375, BE365) tells you the model, and the default codes are what you enter to finish the reset. Write them down, this is how you reset the lock even if you never knew the current programming code.

Reset a Schlage Encode (BE489)

The reset button on a Schlage Encode
  1. Remove the back cover plate to expose the inside of the lock.
  2. Press and hold the reset button. The LED flashes red.
  3. Keep holding until the LED stops flashing, which starts the reset (up to 10 seconds).
  4. When the LED turns blue, the reset is done.
  5. Enter one of the default user codes from the sticker so the lock can re-learn how it is installed (auto-handing).

Reset a Schlage Connect (BE468 / BE469)

The Schlage button used to reset a Schlage Connect
  1. Slide off the battery cover and disconnect the battery terminal.
  2. Press and HOLD the Schlage button on the front of the lock.
  3. While holding it, reconnect the battery terminal. The green check and the inside Schlage button flash three times.
  4. Enter one of the default user codes from the white label to complete the auto-handing process.

Reset a Schlage Touch (FE695 / BE375)

The Schlage button on a Schlage Touch keypad deadbolt
  1. Disconnect the battery.
  2. Press and release the Schlage button on the outside of the lock.
  3. Within 10 seconds, reconnect the battery terminal. The light goes green for one second.
  4. Press and hold the Schlage button until the light is green and the lock beeps, then enter a default code from the sticker.

Reset a Schlage push-button (BE365 / BE575)

These mechanical-keypad deadbolts reset by clearing codes with the programming code, then re-adding codes. The default programming code is on the sticker inside the lock if you do not have your custom one.

Watch: resetting a Schlage lock

After you reset

Re-enter the default code, then add your own user codes and reconnect to Wi-Fi and the app on a connected model. If you moved into the home, also rekey the key override so the previous owner’s physical key no longer works. Have a Kwikset too? See how to reset a Kwikset smart lock.

When to call a locksmith

If the lock will not reset, the bolt binds, or it keeps dropping Wi-Fi, the issue is usually the install. ACME installs and troubleshoots Schlage smart locks, see smart lock installation, commercial smart locks, and Phoenix locksmith services.
