Does Your Key or Remote Need Programming?

Almost all vehicles from 2000 and newer use transponder (chip) keys that require programming. Many remotes can be programmed yourself, and when DIY is possible the product page includes a Programming Instructions tab.

If it needs the car’s computer, we handle it in shop or mobile. See car key programming for details.

I want to give a huge shout out to David! I came in with a very hard to find key and he went over and beyond to make it happen. He was incredibly helpful, personable and genuinely cared about making sure I was taken care of his customer … More service and report were outstanding. I highly recommend having your keys made here if you’re looking for someone who truly knows their stuff and goes the extra mile ask for David.

I had broken the key fob for my car at about 4:00 pm, and had to get that fixed in a hurry. I found Acme Locksmiths, and rushed over to their shop. David was working, and while he didn't have my exact fob in stock, he was able to transfer … More my fob's guts into a similar one, and it works perfectly. A very reasonable price, as well. He was responsive and knowledgeable, and worked hard to get me up and running. Thanks, David!

Car Key & Fob FAQ

My car remote buttons work but the car will not start. Why?

The key and remote electronics are separate even when they share one housing. The remote can be DIY-programmed, but the transponder that starts the car still has to be programmed to the vehicle.

Why is laser key cutting more expensive?

Laser-cut keys are milled on a special machine instead of a standard cutter, and most are transponders that also need programming, so they cost more than a basic key.

What You Can Order Online

Keys & Key/Remote Combos

A cut key, or a key with a built-in remote. We cut and program it to your car.

Smart Proximity Fobs

Push-button-start fobs. Always programmed to the vehicle.

Standalone Remotes

Lock and unlock only. Many you can program yourself with the included instructions.

Laser-Cut High-Security Keys

Milled blades for newer vehicles. Most are transponders and need programming.

What to Know Before You Order

Have your year, make, and model handy. If you do not see your exact remote button layout, a remote with extra buttons usually works as long as it is the same year, make, and model and otherwise looks the same. If your car is not listed, it’s because it is likely a dealer only item or dealer only programming. Your best bet in that case is to go to the dealer.

Many remotes include DIY programming instructions on the product page. If the part needs the car computer, bring it to our Phoenix, Mesa, Gilbert, or Scottsdale shop, arrive at least an hour before closing, and we cut and program it. We ship nationwide too, take it to any local locksmith, or order it pre-cut by VIN.
